The journey to Abydos, Frist Boat

The journey to Abydos is made in the same direction as the river current, thus no sails are required, just a technique of manoeuvring around obstructions and shallow water regions.
Although no connecting line is apparent, the first boat tows the second. The structure of this vessel is made of wood. A huge central cabin on the deck has numerous pieces of funerary equipment on the roof, including a little table of offerings, a bed with its head rest, a pot of eye makeup, a mirror, and a box of toiletries. A red container and a fan are located to the left of the bed. The pilot stands in front of his control box, indicating the existence of things to avoid to the helmsman (who is only slightly visible at the back). He uses a long rod to gauge the depth of the water. The six oarsmen, whose oars appear to be missing, wait for their orders.
